Our Vision:
Education for Liberation
Schools are microcosms of our society: they reflect the same systems of control, punishment, and neglect that shape the world beyond their walls. When we transform education, we are also transforming the political and cultural systems that sustain oppression.
We believe education should awaken self-determination and collective power. It should help youth imagine and build the world they deserve, not just survive in the one they’ve inherited.
The classroom remains the most radical space of possibility.
- Bell Hooks
AEJ envisions a world where youth of color lead this transformation: reclaiming education as a space for healing, collective care, and imagination; where organizing becomes a form of learning, and learning becomes a practice of freedom.
Liberation means more than having a voice in decision-making. It means self-determination — the power to define our future — and self-governance — the resources, tools, and freedom to bring that future into being. Education must be the ground where both are nurtured.
